What to do about dry skin in dogs?

I have a dachshund who is 5 years old and I just got her not too long ago from someone else and she has very dry itchy skin. I know Dachshunds are known for dry skin because I have 2 others but this one is extremely dry. What are some of the best remedies for dry skin in dogs? Thanks!
I have heard about giving them Salmon where would I find Salmon oil?

I have just bought Salmon Oil for my dogs from www.fish4dogs.com.
500 ml bottle cost £9 in the UK. If you are outside the UK there may be shipping costs involved.

You only need to put 1 teasponful on the dog’s food once per day.

My Vet also recommended Evening Primrose Oil for dry skin in one of my Goldens when she was a puppy and it was very effective. The dry skin cleared up within 3 weeks.

Healthy skin starts from the inside so make sure you are feeding a good quality food, high in Omega Fatty acids and with little to no grain source.

You can add Salmon oil supplementation as well. When bathing, use an oatmeal based shampoo and make certain the dog is parasite free.

    1) Do not bathe your dog often

#2) Brush your dog (if it has fur of course) a lot!

    #3) Use dog shampoo

    #4) Provide quality foods

I add olive oil to my dogs food and if the skin is real dry I will rub it on there too. Natural and works great. Leave it on for an hour and then shampoo and condition.

give the dog bath with oatmeal shampoo or dog shampoo that helps dry skin. I would with one called Hylyt or relief. Vets usually carry this. It also might be the food that you are feeding your dogs. or you can give them fish oil supplements or supplement vets use called 3v Capsules.

I own two pit mixes and they are known to have skin issues. They had dry flaky skin and the supplements worked. but was hassle to me so I found them better food. They were on Nutro Ultra mix. But I switched to Premium edge by Diamond. Its cheaper and better for my dogs. they have one for Skin and coat. plus all there food has omega fatty acids. plus there is no corn.now soy . the meat product is not a chick en meal or salmon meal or lamb meal.
